২০১৪ সালে আইসিসি বিশ্ব টুয়েন্টি২০ ক্রিকেট প্রতিযোগিতা আয়োজনে বাংলাদেশ স্বাগতিক দেশের মর্যাদা পায়।[৭] উল্লেখ্য যে, ২০১১ সালে ভারত ও শ্রীলঙ্কার পাশাপাশি বাংলাদেশও বিশ্বকাপ ক্রিকেট প্রতিযোগিতায় যৌথভাবে স্বাগতিক দেশ মনোনীত হয়েছিল এবং সফলভাবে খেলা পরিচালনা করে।
